About Us

About Us

The Liu Lab is dedicated to advancing cancer research through the development and application of innovative molecular imaging technologies and therapeutic strategies. Our work focuses on understanding tumor biology, the tumor microenvironment, and treatment response, with the goal of improving cancer diagnosis, therapy, and patient outcomes.

Led by Dr. Li Liu, the lab integrates cellular and molecular biology, imaging science, and translational research to address critical challenges in cancer progression and treatment resistance. We place particular emphasis on preclinical imaging approaches that enable real-time, noninvasive visualization of tumor growth, vascular function, hypoxia, and therapeutic response in small animal models.

Our Research Approach

Our research combines dynamic optical imaging techniques, including bioluminescence, fluorescence, and multispectral optoacoustic tomography (MSOT), with cancer biology and therapeutic evaluation. Using these tools, we investigate tumor microenvironment remodeling, vascular function, and mechanisms of drug response and resistance across multiple cancer types, including breast cancer, lung cancer, and other solid tumors. In addition to imaging-based discovery, the lab explores novel therapeutic strategies targeting tumor vasculature, hypoxia, and stromal interactions. Our work aims to bridge fundamental biological insights with translational applications that can inform future clinical strategies.

Our Mission

Our mission is to use innovative imaging and experimental approaches to better understand cancer biology and to develop strategies that improve cancer treatment and patient care. Through interdisciplinary research and collaboration, we strive to translate discovery into meaningful impact.
