Meet the PI

Tara Barron

Tara Barron, PhD

Assistant Professor, Pathology

CPRIT Scholar in Cancer Research


Dr. Barron earned her Ph.D. from UT Health San Antonio, where she completed her dissertation on electrophysiological implications of neuron-glial interactions. She subsequently underwent postdoctoral training at Stanford University, where she studied neuron-to-glioma synaptic communication. Dr. Barron is currently a Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) Scholar in Cancer Research and Assistant Professor in the Pathology Department at UT Southwestern.

Jessica Oceguera

Jessica Oceguera

Research Assistant

Jessica earned a B.S. in Medical Technology from California State University, Northridge, and is currently pursuing an M.S. in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics at the University of Texas at Dallas.
Her technical experience includes microscopy and a range of molecular biology techniques, including Western blotting, various cloning methods, and CRISPR-based methodologies.
Outside of the laboratory, Jessica enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants, and spending time with her pets.

Grace Nguyen

Grace Nguyen

Graduate Student, Cancer Biology PhD Program

Grace Nguyen was born and raised in Houston, Texas and earned her B.S in Biology at the University of Houston. After graduation she was a research assistant for Dr. Tae Jin Lee at UT Health Houston, working on using microRNA in nanoparticles as an adjuvant therapeutic for glioblastoma (GBM).
As a PhD student in the Cancer Biology program, she is interested in how IDH1mut astrocytoma and neuroglia affect each other. When not in the lab, you can find her exploring Dallas, baking, crocheting, and playing with her calico, Maple.
