Variation in HCC tumor growth patterns and prognosis

Understanding tumor biology and growth patterns is essential for prognostication in HCC. Although HCC is associated with high mortality overall, we have shown there is significant heterogeneity in tumor doubling times and progression rates. There is therefore a need to better understand tumor biology to help tailor our treatment strategies, particularly in patients with hepatic impairment from underlying cirrhosis. We are conducting studies to identify imaging and blood-based predictors of differing biological behaviors.
