Located in the Department of Ophthalmology, the Campello Lab investigates the molecular and cellular mechanisms that drive retinal aging and age-related retinal diseases, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Our research aims to uncover the biological processes underlying age-related vision loss and translate these discoveries into broadly applicable therapeutic strategies to preserve visual function.
Meet the Principal Investigator
Laura Campello, Ph.D.
Dr. Campello is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology. Prior to joining the faculty, she conducted postdoctoral research using multi-omics approaches to uncover the molecular mechanisms of retinal aging and disease and worked in the biotechnology industry, where she led programs developing next-generation AAV capsids for intravitreal gene therapy. Her research integrates genomics, systems biology, and experimental therapeutics to accelerate the development of innovative treatments for blinding retinal diseases.
