We seek a passionate and self-motivated, writing-friendly researcher with background in biochemistry and structural biology. The Goldsmith lab combines drug discovery and mechanistic analysis to study protein kinases. WNK kinases are drug targets for hypertension and triple negative breast cancer. We discovered a good class of inhibitors by screening and and collaborate with chemist -- Uttam Tambar at UTSW -- in cycles of inhibitor design, synthesis and crystallography. We are also studying the WNK kinase mechanism. Based on their link to hypertension we found that WNKs function as intracellular pressure sensors. We aim to determine molecular mechanism of pressure sensing with X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM and other biochemical and biophysical techniques.
