Peter Sguigna, M.D.

Principal Investigator & Assistant Professor

Peter received his bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering with a minor in mathematics from Texas A&M University, and completed his medical degree and neurology training, including a fellowship in multiple sclerosis & neuroimmunology, from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. As part of his fellowship, he studied new bioenergetic relationships of intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells in patients with multiple sclerosis and related disorders and developed new technologies for visualization of the anterior visual system. In 2020, he joined as faculty within the department of Neurology. He serves as principal investigator and/or site principal investigator for several Phase I, II, III, and IV clinical trials, and his research interests include neuro-ophthalmology, intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells, and circadian rhythms.

Senior Neuro-Ophthalmic Imaging Specialist

Darrel Conger, has been an ophthalmic and neuro-ophthalmic imaging specialist at UT Southwestern for 38 years. His main interest is high resolution imaging techniques for clinic and research in demyelinating disease like Multiple Sclerosis. He also enjoys his role in the Pediatric CONQUER program at the Children’s Medical Center. Outside of work, Darrel is avid scuba diver including technical diving with over 500 dives in 8 countries.

Ana Raicu

Clinical Research Coordinator

Ana Raicu joined the UTSW Neurology Department as a Clinical Research Coordinator in Multiple Sclerosis in 2023. 

Over the last 20 years, Ana has worked in Neurodiagnostics as a certified EEG, NCS and IOM technologist. She has also served as an educator in the field. Her previous research experience includes registering drugs with the Romanian Ministry of Health, and projects in dermatology clinical studies. 

Ana obtained her BS in Medical Science from “Carol Davila” Medical University, Romania. Outside of work, Ana is personally interested in art, classical music, nature, and conservation
