Irvin Garza

OBI NSTP Graduate Fellow: Genetics, Development, and Disease and Mechanisms of Disease and Translational Science

Hometown: Dallas, Texas

Education: Bachelor's of Science in Biology, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas

In the lab: My research is developing and engineering novel AAV capsids to improve the delivery of gene therapies to the central nervous system, and to understand the biochemical and biophysical properties that contribute to the basic biology of AAVs. My other interests lie in understanding the molecular factors that play a role in viral and host interactions from a developmental and aging standpoint and exploring novel methods of delivery for AAV gene therapy.

Outside the lab: I enjoy playing video games, spending time with my pets, working out, playing soccer, music production, trying new restaurants, and going to electronic music shows.
