The Callaway Lab is working to help babies breathe easier.
Lung development is a dynamic interplay of cell differentiation and communication that can be disrupted by preterm birth or congenital differences. In the Callaway Lab we are working to study how these disruptions to the normal lung developmental programming drive disease in the neonatal intensive care unit and into adulthood.
Meet the PI: Danielle Callaway M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Danielle Callaway is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, her lab will focus on the effects of mechanical force on AT1 cells both prenatally and postnatally to drive changes in gene transcription, extracellular matrix remodeling, and intercellular communication across the developing lung. To accomplish this, the lab will utilize specialized transgenic and surgical mouse models, cutting-edge imaging techniques, and next-gen sequencing all with the goal of making life better for babies.
In her free time, Dr. Callaway enjoys cooking and playing board games and video games with her family.
