Dr. Kimberly Chan is an Assistant Professor and FIRST scholar in the Advanced Imaging Research Center with secondary appointments in the Departments of Biomedical Engineering and at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Chan received a bachelor's degree in bioengineering with Honors from the University of California, Berkeley and a doctoral degree in biomedical engineering from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine under the supervision of Dr. Richard Edden and Dr. Peter Barker. After completing her Ph.D. in 2019, she joined the University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) as a Postdoctoral Researcher and later as an Instructor in the Advanced Imaging Research Center and Department of Psychiatry in Dr. Anke Henning's group. Dr. Chan's research focuses on the development and application of novel MRS techniques to answer key biological questions in clinical neuroscience and improve the diagnosis, disease monitoring, and treatment planning of neurological diseases and psychiatric disorders.
Postdoctoral Researchers
Shreshtha Chaturvedi, Ph.D.
Dr. Shreshtha Chaturvedi is a Postdoctoral Researcher at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where she works at the Advanced Imaging Research Center. She earned her Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Arlington, focusing on automated parameter estimation in a networked neuronal sleep dynamical system. She holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Mathematics from the University of Delhi, and an M.Phil. in Mathematics from Ambedkar University Delhi.
Dr. Shreshtha's research interests include optimization theory, mathematical modeling, and dynamical systems, with a particular focus on applications in mathematical biology. She is currently applying optimization techniques to improve spectral fitting in MRS as part of Dr. Chan’s lab.
Outside of mathematics, she enjoys playing outdoor sports and reading poetry.
Graduate Students
Justin Singer, B.S.
Justin Singer is a Biomedical Engineering PhD student at UT Southwestern Medical Center, specializing in 1H-MRS and MRSI. In 2024, Justin earned his B.S. in molecular biology with a minor in mathematics from Duquesne University, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Here he performed research examining enzymes involved with lipid metabolism. He also spent time at the University of Virginia conducting biomaterials research. Outside of the lab, he enjoys film photography, hanging out with Frank, writing, and spending time with his cat, Killua.
Research Assistants
Kunal Seetha, B.S.
Kunal Seetha is a pre-medical student in his gap year and preparing to apply to medical school. Kunal earned his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering with a focus on Computation & Analysis from Case Western Reserve University, located in Cleveland, Ohio. As an undergraduate student, Kunal performed research on disease progression in infertility patients. Kunal also performed research on the efficacy of deep-brain stimulation on Parkinson's patients. Kunal's skills and experiences lead him to have a unique interest in the field of medical imaging.
Outside of the lab, Kunal enjoys playing tennis, pickleball, and volleyball.
