Matthew Sun, M.D.

Matthew Sun, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery. He specializes in the treatment of brain tumors with a special interest in skull base pathologies. He earned his medical degree at University of California San Francisco. He completed his neurosurgery residency and postdoctoral research fellowships in the field of neuro-oncology at University of California Los Angeles. He gained advanced clinical training though a fellowship in open cerebrovascular and skull base surgery at University of Miami.  His research efforts focus on studying brain tumor immunology to develop new immunotherapy treatments for malignant meningiomas.

His scientific goal is to understand the tumor immune microenvironment of malignant meningiomas and to develop targeted immunotherapy regimens incorporating adoptive T cell therapy for malignant meningiomas. Ultimately, he plans to translate the basic science research into the development of novel therapeutics, in particular immunotherapy, for meningiomas and other CNS/skull base tumors, and eventually test the efficacy of those novel therapeutics in clinical trials.
