Meet the Team

Robert Bachoo, M.D. Ph.D.

Robert Bachoo, M.D. Ph.D.

PI & Associate Professor

Robert (Bob) Bachoo, M.D., Ph.D., is a physician-scientist, trained in neurology and neuroscience, combining his interests to investigate primary brain tumors. He completed his Ph.D. in Experimental Medicine at McGill University in Montreal and his M.D. at the University of Toronto before moving to Boston for further training. Dr. Bachoo completed a neurology residency at Tufts University and was the Chief Resident in his final year. He then pursued post-doctoral training at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School in the laboratory of Ronald A. DePinho, M.D. There, Dr. Bachoo explored the link between astrocytes, neural stem cells and gliomas. He was appointed to the faculty of Brigham and Women’s Hospital as Instructor of Neurology, where he split his time between clinical care and ongoing research until moving to Dallas in 2006 to build the research program in neuro-oncology.

Elizabeth Maher, M.D., Ph.D.

Elizabeth Maher, M.D., Ph.D.

PI & Professor

Elizabeth Maher, M.D., Ph.D. is a physician-scientist trained in internal medicine, medical oncology and subspecialized in neuro-oncology. She completed her Ph.D. in Physiology followed by her M.D. at McGill University, initially focusing on kidney physiology before changing her research career to cancer during medical residency at the University of Toronto.

As a medical oncology fellow at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School, Dr. Maher sought further training with Howard Alan Fine, M.D., a leader in the field of neuro-oncology, whose most important clinical question was always “what did you learn today?” Dr. Fine challenged his trainees to seek answers in the clinic, directly from patients, that would direct future research and lead to improved treatments. It is an approach that Dr. Maher has applied to her own approach to translational research and the work that she does in the Neuro-Oncology Translational Research Laboratory.
