Meet the PI

Dr. David Farrar

Dr. Farrar earned his PhD in Immunology at UT Southwestern and obtained postdoctoral training with Dr. Kenneth Murphy at Washington University. Dr. Farrar joined the Department of Immunology at UT Southwestern in 2001.

The Farrar Lab has made important discoveries of how cytokines regulate T cell development and function. In particular, we have studied the role of the major anti-viral cytokine, type I interferon, in regulating various aspects of T cell biology ranging from acute developmental processes to the formation of memory T cells. In addition, we have turned our attention to the connection between the brain and immune system, and we are currently focussed on how the adrenaline receptor integrates signals from cytokines to regulate the magnitude of immune responses to infectious organisms such as influenza.

In his free time, Dr. Farrar enjoys cooking and traveling and is an avid sailor. He and his husband Joey have 2 dogs and a cat. The cat is in charge, always!
