Welcome
The mission of the Psychosocial Research and Depression Clinic is to understand how psychosocial (i.e., behavioral, emotional, attitudinal, social, personal, and interpersonal) factors, including treatment, influence health in mood and related disorders. The Psychosocial Research and Depression Clinic (Jarrett Laboratory) was established in 1989 for the purposes of:
- Learning about the etiology, maintenance, course, and treatment of mood and related disorders, with special emphasis on the role of psychosocial factors and psychotherapy.
- Developing better and sustainable interventions.
- Disseminating knowledge through patient care, collaboration, presentation, publication, teaching, technological advances, and community outreach. Through dissemination we aim to promote a better understanding of the impact of psychosocial factors on health, illness, and recovery, particularly in the context of depression and evidence-based psychotherapy,
In short, we evaluate the role of psychosocial factors and interventions on the course of health in mood and related disorders.
Our goal is to create and disseminate new knowledge and treatments that will help to reduce the suffering and promote health using psychological interventions (such as cognitive behavioral therapy and new technologies for preventing onset, relapse, and recurrence). Ultimately, through interdisciplinary collaboration, we strive to be a part of research and patient care, which produces cures. While we join the field in searching for cures for mood and related disorders, we aim to develop new strategies to replace vulnerability with resilience.
The interdisciplinary team includes investigators from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and beyond. There are opportunities for colleagues and trainees to participate in understanding how psychosocial factors influence health and the course of illness for our large and unique samples of patients.
