Social Networks in Eating Disorders

For many patients with eating disorders, social support can be essential to long-term recovery. Additionally, emerging therapies try to incorporate loved ones and patient support systems in the treatment process. This study has two goals: (1) understand how eating disorders influence real-time social support networks and (2) identify what internal processes may relate to social support in eating disorders.

For more information about the study and/or enrollment process, you can contact us directly via email or by calling (214)648-4618.

We are currently enrolling adults who:

  • Are between the ages of 18-45
  • Either have or have not ever had an eating disorder
  • Can safely be treated at the outpatient level of care

Social Networks in Eating Disorders is a study for people ages 18 to 45 who have or have not had an eating disorder. The purpose of this study is to see whether close social relationships differ between people with (or recovering from) an eating disorder and people who have never had an eating disorder.

The process for participating in this study includes two in-person visits and two rounds of online questionnaires. The in-person visits involve the collection of measurements, interviews, cognitive tasks, and behavioral tasks. If needed, several of the tasks can be modified for either phone call or video visit (like a telehealth appointment), but there are a few tasks that need to be completed in person.

The in-person visits will take place six months apart at UT Southwestern Empire Plaza Building II in Dallas. At each study milestone, participants will receive financial compensation for their time and effort.
