Commitment to Biomedical Education

At the laboratory bench, we accept summer students, and house staff on elective time, but the bulk of the trainees are post-doctoral fellows - MD’s and PhD’s from the United States as well as international graduates.
The post-doctoral fellow is at the center of the focused training designed to help launch an independent career as an investigator. The projects are question-driven and not technique-based. In addition to bench training, the post-docs will be groomed in scientific communications skill, specifically public speaking, and manuscript and grant writing.
Contact Dr. Moe for information about joining the lab.
Lab Members

Orson Moe, M.D.
Professor and Director
Orson Moe is a physician-scientist who specializing in studies in disease-oriented pre-clinical pathophysiology in kidney-related topics. The studies are focus on metabolism and epithelial transport physiology and pathophysiology. The clinically-relevant topics are acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, extra-renal complications of kidney disease, and kidney stones. In the laboratory, students and post-docs assume central roles in conducting their studies and their training are matched to their projected scientific career trajectories. In addition to being a clinician-laboratory scientist, Moe is also active in education in basic and clinical science on campus and at the national and international levels.

Johanne Pastor
Senior Scientist
I work on phosphate metabolism, Klotho biology, and protein signaling pathways, using both in vitro and in vivo models to understand how these systems interact. Outside the lab, I enjoy traveling to visit national parks with my sons and grandchildren.

Taylor Davidson, M.S.
Senior Research Associate
Taylor is a Dallas native (Garland, TX). He earned his bachelor's degree in biology from he University of Texas at Austin in 2015 and started working in Dr. Moe’s lab in 2016. He achieved a Masters in 2017 from the UT Dallas. His projects include the pathophysiology of uric acid nephrolithiasis and the role of renal lipids, Klotho, erythropoietin receptor and SWSAP1 (RopE), distal renal tubular acidosis. When he’s not in the lab you can find him mostly on a golf course or thinking about being on one. He is married and enjoys weight lifting, sports, and being outdoors. Ask me to go golf!

Cinthia Moraes Carbonara, M.D., Ph.D.
Post-doctoral Researcher
I’m from Brazil and moved to Dallas in January 2025 to start a new journey. I earned my medical degree at São Paulo State University and completed residency training in internal medicine and nephrology at the Clinical Hospital of the University of São Paulo. Additionally, I completed my master’s degree and my PhD in Sciences, at the School of Medical Sciences of the University of Campinas (UNICAMP). Currently, my focus in the Moe Lab involves circulating extracellular vesicles and extrarenal Klotho and AKI + CKD surgical models. I love studying and doing research. In my spare time, I enjoy being with my family, going to the gym, traveling, listening to music, and try to new restaurants.

Masaki Yoshioka, Ph.D.
Post-doctoral Research Fellow
I’m from Saitama, Japan, and I earned my B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Sports Medicine from the University of Tsukuba, Japan. After completing a year and a half of postdoctoral training at Jichi Medical University, I moved to the U.S. In the Moe Lab, my research focuses on the effects of exercise on kidney function. I’m enjoying Texas cuisine, especially BBQ and tacos. Outside the lab, I practice kendo at the Plano Kendo Club and hold a 6th Dan rank.

Carlos Waddle
Research Assistant I
I'm from San Antonio, TX and raised in Dallas, TX. I graduated with a B.S. in Microbiology from The University of Texas at Arlington. My focus in the Moe Lab involves Klotho IP-IB assay for clinical & non-clinical studies, Swsap1 (RopE), Generation of NCK Mouse Model, Phosphate Regulation of Klotho, and AKI + CKD surgical and non-surgical models. Outside of the lab I enjoy traveling, exploring new coffee locations and cuddling with my shih tzus.

Bailey Blair
Research Assistant I
Howdy! I am from Gonzales, Tx and graduated from Texas A&M University with a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences. My focus within the Moe lab involves LPL, Hyp-Phex, ISAM, and SLC13a5 mice. Being new to Dallas, I have enjoyed exploring the city and all of the unique food options available. My favorite things to do outside of work are attending new workout classes, going dancing, and traveling. A fun fact about me is that I am a student of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Jessica Snyder
Research Assistant I
Being a Dallas native, I got my B.A. in Biology and M.A. in Teaching from Austin College, as well as my M.A. in Molecular Biology from SMU. I primarily work on acute and chronic lung injury and the effects of klotho in preventing lung damage. In my free time, I enjoy going to Dallas Stars games with my friends, cuddling my dog and cat, and reading epic fantasy novels.
