CAPE: Cardiac Growth After PrEterm Birth Study
The goal of this study is to understand how the heart grows after preterm birth.
For this study, will evaluate how the heart and lungs grow after preterm birth by measuring heart and lung function at 2 visits approximately 2 years apart. For children, consent from a parent is required to participate. Each visit will include questions about your health, lung function tests, a heart ultrasound, a heart MRI scan, and a blood sample.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Children and adults aged 8-30
- PRETERM: born <32 weeks
- TERM: born >37 weeks
- Ability to provide informed consent (parent/guardian consent required for minors
- Additional criteria apply. Participants are compensated for their time.
Parkland/Texas Health Resources Cardiopulmonary Screening Study
The goal of this study is to provide age appropriate screening for heart, lung, and sleep disorders for adolescents and adults born preterm.
Inclusion Criteria for Adolescents and Adults Born Preterm:
- Children and adults age 12-40 born ≤32 weeks
- Ability to provide informed consent (parent/guardian consent required for minors)
We are also looking for healthy adolescents and adults born at term (full 9 months, or >37 weeks). Please contact us if you are interested in learning more.
Exercise Limitations in Adults Born Preterm
The goal of this study is to determine why adults born preterm may feel short of breath or have difficulty with exercising. Preterm and term adults will undergo exercise testing and heart MRI.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Prior participation in the Parkland/Texas Health Resources Cardiopulmonary Screening Study
- Adults Born Preterm feel short of breath or limited with activities such as exercise
