Tatara Research Lab

Who we are

The Tatara Laboratory applies engineering technologies to study and treat infectious diseases. We are particularly engaged in device-related infection, orthopedic immunology, and pathogen virulence on biomaterial surfaces.

Alexander Tatara, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Tatara is a physician scientist/engineer whose work focuses on the host/pathogen/material interface of device-related infection. He applies engineering tools towards solving infectious problems to create new strategies and improve patient care. He trained at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard University School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, The Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering, Rice University, and Baylor College of Medicine. He is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine and Department of Biomedical Engineering. When not performing research, Dr. Tatara sees patients with infections at Parkland Hospital and William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital.
