Dr. Celine Agnes, PhD, joined our laboratory! Dr. Agnes is an expert on orthopedic biomaterials and completed her PhD at McGill University. She will be leading work in immunoengineering for orthopedic infection and small animal surgery.

Tatara Lab Wins Jeanette Wilkins Award
An abstract presented at the Musculoskeletal Infection Society 2025 Meeting, “Inherently Anti-staphylococcal Bone Cement” was recognized as the best basic science presentation of the national meeting with the Jeanette Wilkins Award. Congratulations to Lauren, the first author of the abstract, as well as collaborators Ivan Delgado Alvarado, Dr. Robert Tower, and Dr. Antonia Chen!

Kemp’s article selected as Editor’s Choice
An article by Lauren Kemp and Alex Tatara was selected as an Editor's Choice by Open Forum Infectious Diseases. In "Implant Infectious Diseases: An Introduction to Biomaterials for ID Physicians ," Lauren and Alex introduce the subspecialty Implant Infectious Diseases as ID specialists that focus device-related infections and discuss how biomaterial designs can increase or mitigate infectious risk. Abhinay Goes to Medical School
Abhinay Adlooru, Research Technician II, will be leaving our group as he matriculates to the University of California San Diego School of Medicine. Abhinay led a great project studying the effects of catheter biomaterials on fungi and was an important team member in our animal surgeries. We will miss you but are excited for the next step on your journey, Abhinay!

Kemp wins award
Lauren Kemp was recognized at the Molecular Microbiology Graduate Program 2025 Symposium with the Best Poster Presentation Runner-Up award for her outstanding work. Lauren presented on a new class of antimicrobial orthopedic biomaterials. Congratulations, Lauren!

Tatara Lab at Society for Biomaterials 2025
Lauren Kemp had a wonderful time representing the Tatara Lab at the Society for Biomaterials 2025 Meeting in Chicago, Illinois. She presented her poster on a new type of antimicrobial bone cement. Alex gave an oral presentation at a special session in honor of one of his mentors, Dr. Sakiyama-Elbert.
